Solomon Bowden

Solomon Bowden

Biography

Solomon Bowden is Cornish filmmaker who grew up in a council house in the town of Newquay. The rise of the Cornish filmmaking movement, particularly the fiercely independent work of Mark Jenkin, inspired Bowden’s career as a writer and director. Bowden prides himself on making films in Cornwall, and infuses his storytelling with experiences of his upbringing and the local culture. He crowdfunded his micro-budget first film Lady, What’s Tomorrow (2024), working primarily with first time actors and shot on location in Bowden’s hometown. The film was well received, with BAFTA award-winning Cornish filmmaker Mark Jenkin saying "Lady, What’s Tomorrow blew me away. The enigmatic dialogue, the discombobulating structure, and the uncompromising vision at the heart of this hugely cinematic piece of work made me immediately intrigued as to what [Bowden] would do next." Soon after, Bowden began work on the crowdfunded short Prince of Tears, predominantly shot in Penzance, and starring beloved cultural icon Richard Strange (Gangs of New York, Batman, Mister Lonely) as well as the well respected Cornwall-based actor Mary Woodvine (Bait, Enys Men).
